    Life[ edit ] Born in Peshawar into a Kashmiri family which migrated from Baramulla [4] [5] Bokhari received his early education in the city of his birth and in moved from Islamia College , Peshawar, to attend Government College, Lahore. After completing his Masters in English he was appointed as lecturer at the same institution. In , he took his MA in English after just one year's study and stood first, after which he was appointed lecturer at the College. This was his creative period. His bilingual excellence is owed to his intensive translation of great books and plays from English to Urdu. He was tall and blue-eyed, had a razor-sharp mind, an equally sharp tongue, and a keenness to go forward in life. Many years later, the Bokhari English Prize was established there in his honor. After the formation of Pakistan in , he was a member of Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan 's entourage during his visit to the United States in All the speeches and public pronouncement of the late Prime Minister were drafted by him. These have since been published in a volume entitled Heart of Asia. But it was a simply furnished home, strewn with books — books on tables and on the floor. All of them are evidence of the academic life from which Pakistan's shortage of trained men diverted him into diplomacy.

Patras can pick up a very trite and boring topic like the Geography of Lahore and embellish it with such spices that one can't help reading it twice, thrice..

    Doubtless to say, he is ranked among authors like Doughlas Adams and P. Wodehouse though I'm not really sure if they were contemporaries. This book must be read by everyone who understands Urdu and good humour.

Even more due to the fact that an excerpt from this book was included in my urdu textbook at school and I had a lot of memories about how we mocked each other with the jokes in this book.

    I am a big fan of Urdu humour. Mohammad Khan and most of all Patras Bukhari. I probably read the excerpt in my texbook more than times over the year and at that time I could remember it word by word. Then I got hold o It was hilarious!

    Then I got hold of his book and treated it in the very same way. I have a feeling that it might not be that popular with adults or those who have left student life long ago, because most of the book is devoted to making fun of hostel and college life. It is undoubtedly a book to be treasured.

    I did not find Patras Bukhari humorous like many others. It was quite boring and I found it difficult finishing it.
